budget meeting tonight in oakland. i'm dan ashley. >> i'm carolyn johnson. their interruption was brief, and the focus quickly returned to the millions of dollars cities across the state will lose in redevelopment funds by the end of the month. in oakland, the hit is particularly hard. $28 million. tonight city leaders are scrambling for ways to fill the budget gap. alan wang is at city hall where those layoffs are looming. alan? >> carolyn, the meeting just finished up within the hour. and they decided to delay this very crucial vote. and that's because dissolving a $28 million redevelopment front is a very complicated process, and they don't want anyone to lose their jobs if they can prevent it. despite interruptions by occupy protesters, the city council pressed on. time is running out. >> we have never done anything this big, this fast. >> the council is under pressure is slash possibly 105 jobs that includes 20 city administrator positions by the end of the month. the loss of $28 million in redevelopment funds has the mayor proposing huge cuts in slashing the budgets of the oaknd l

that prevent the fish from reaching their historic breeding grounds. dan ashley looks into the plan for removing those obstacles. >> reporter: they once fished at klamath river as far as oregon. >> they were part of our life and culture. it's been unfortunate we have been denied the salmon the resources that have been part of our history and culture. >> historically you saw about a million salmon coming in there. >> reporter: but there are no salmon in the basin today because five separated dams keep them from getting there. the first is 190 miles from the pacific ocean. more than 10,000 ren have returned this year to breed and die. the only reason they keep coming back is because of a hatchery at the foot of dam where the fish are bred and released. >> to raise 6 million salmon our goal. >> it would give places for them to spawn naturally. the federal license to operate the dams are up. those renovations are expensive. it's estimated it will cost $300 million to tear down the dams and would be paid by rate pairs. >> instead a coalition of treibsz, landowners and local units have co

of the brawl left one man bleeding on the ground and semi-conscious. good evening i'm dan ashley. >> tonight police and city officials are trying to get control of a growing problem. >> buzzing bar and restaurant scene is also bringing increase in crime and violence. >> allen is live in walnut creek with the story. >> these aren't your average drunken fight. police have been responding to brawls between 20 to 30 people at times. last saturday they had to use mace to calm down a crowd of about 15 people. it has been ongoing problem for the past 2 years and now city officials are are feeling the pressure to do something about it. this fight in front of a bar in 2010 is typical of the after hours violence that has been plaguing the city do you want district. this saturday 9 people were arrested in 3 separate drunk ep fights. 2 people were hospitalized and 3 police officers were injured. >> there is just young people around here. young people with money. >> i don't think this is a new problem. in walnut creek. nor do i think it's a new problem in most towns that have bars and restaurant
